Hunting Safari Charter

This panoramic eight-day sojourn, designed by Rovos Rail for bird shooters, plains game hunters and non-hunters, commences in Pretoria and winds its way to the western reaches of South Africa*

First stops are Kloofeind and Barkley West with two full days of shooting while our leisure guests enjoy a tour of Bloemfontein and a visit to a cheetah-breeding facility. Continuing west to Kimberley, hunters enjoy two days of shooting with a day’s break to join guests for a tour of this historic town. The train travels north to Warrenton where hunters revel in a full day out while our other guests visit the McGregor Museum and William Humphreys Art Gallery. Then it’s on to Kameel and Mareetsane with two full days of shooting while non-hunters enjoy game drives. After a memorable 1400-kilometre safari in the bush, the train departs for journey’s end at Rovos Rail Station in Pretoria.

*This is our proposed itinerary and date. Hunting Safari Charter South Africa 2018-2019

Day1

10h00 Depart Rovos Rail Station. Travel towards Bloemfontein. Hunters gather for presentation on field etiquette. Lunch and dinner on board.

Day2

GAMEBIRDS
Full-day shoot in the Kloofeind area with lunch in the field.
PLAINS GAME
Full day of hunting in Kloofeind area with lunch in the field.
NON-HUNTERS
Bloemfontein tour with visits to the Anglo Boer War Museum and other monuments. Lunch at a local estate. Experience the cheetah breeding facility and a visit to the Oliewenhuis Art Museum.

Day3

GAMEBIRDS
Full-day shoot in Barkley West with lunch in the field.
PLAINS GAME
Full-day shoot in Barkley West with lunch in the field.
NON-HUNTERS
Game drive with lunch at a local estate.

Day4

GAMEBIRDS AND NON-HUNTERS
Tour of Kimberley, the Diamond Mine Museum and the Big Hole. Lunch at Kimberley Club. Tour of the taxidermy and rehabilitation centre at Wintershoek. Traditional bbq dinner at a local estate.
PLAINS GAME
Full day of hunting in Kimberley area. Lunch in the field. (OR join the Kimberley tour.)

Day5

GAMEBIRDS
Early morning shoot in Warrenton area followed by a half-day shoot.
PLAINS GAME
Full day of hunting in the agricultural region of Warrenton located 61km north of Kimberley in the diamond fields of the Northern Cape. Lunch in the field.
NON-HUNTERS
Visit to the McGregor Museum in Kimberley with lunch at a local estate. Visit to an important gallery and cultural oasis, the William Humphreys Art Gallery, which houses a collection of traditional South African works and 16th- and 17th-century European and British Masters.

Day6

GAMEBIRDS
Full-day shoot in the Kameel area. Lunch in the field.
PLAINS GAME
Full day of hunting in the Kameel area. Lunch in the field.
NON-HUNTERS
Lunch and a game drive in the Kameel area. Giraffe, Impala, Kudu, Blesbok, Blue Wildebeest, Zebra and Ostriches can be viewed. Lunch is enjoyed in the field with the guns. Enjoy the final two drives of the day with the guns before returning back to the train.

Day7

GAMEBIRDS
Full-day shoot in the Mareetsane area. Lunch in the field.
PLAINS GAME
Full day of hunting in Mareetsane area. Lunch in the field.
NON-HUNTERS
Disembark the train in Mareetsane for a one-hour drive to Mafikeng Airport followed by a 30-minute flight to the Madikwe Game Reserve. Enjoy a game drive where you could see the Big Five and the highly endangered African Wild Dog. Lunch is served at Matlha Lodge. Return to the airstrip for the short flight back to Mafikeng. Rejoin the train or join the guns for their last drives.

Day8

Enjoy breakfast before the train’s arrival at Rovos Rail Station in Pretoria at 11h30.
